Taking a look at what is working and what is not is important for a teacher[H1] . Teachers should always be assessing themselves. Not just to make sure they are keeping their jobs, but also to make sure that they are teaching students in an appropriate way. There is not a one size fits all style to teaching and learning, so being adaptable and knowing who is a visual or an auditory or a kinesthetic learner can help make a better lesson in the future.
A good question to ask is, “how can I make this lesson more activity based than lecture based” or “how can I flip this class lesson?” That way in the future, lessons become easier for the teacher and more enjoyable for the students.
Reaching out to families is also important[H2] . Teachers need to be willing to contact parents to inform them on misbehavior or good days their kids have. This way parents can see that you are concerned about their student. Parents should be aware of their student’s current grades, their level of participation and their attendance; all things that me, as a teacher should keep track of. [H3]
Also, taking notes about how the day went can help with future letters to parents, that way there is no confusion about what actually happened and why.
Being apart of professional organizations or at least being interested in professional organizations helps develop good teachers. These organizations do not have to be educational. For example, because I teach environmental systems, I am more interested in environmental programs. [H4] This helps me build my network and also helps me with lesson plan ideas and case studies that can be used to further explore topics.
Teachers should always be on the look out for resources that can help them in their professional life[H5] . These resources can include: online teaching blogs about your subject, online worksheet resources, school library resources, other teaching staff with experience, and educational articles about your subject about teaching tactics.
Teachers should be willing to try new tactics to see what works. Because really, doing these things just makes teachers become better teachers.
