An Introduction to Andrew Zegelin
Hello everyone, my name is Andrew. I like to consider myself more of an adventurer and a scientist than a teaching professional. I am currently living in Quito, Ecuador, which is here:
I arrived here in 2009. But this is not where I started my teaching career. You see, after graduating from San Diego State University in the Fall of 2007:
I moved to Europe to complete a Teach English as Foreign Language certificate in Prague, CZ. I taught for a language agency there for a year, and while there, I was persuaded to move to Quito and teach here. Ecuador is a wonderful country. Little did I know that when I would arrive to Quito, I would meet my future wife, who would provided me with my future kids.
pictured here is me, my wife, Maria Fernanda Romero Sanchez, my daughter, Manuela Ila Zegelin Romero and my soon to be born son, snuggled comfortably in my wife's tummy, Andrew Isaac Zegelin Romero.
But before I settled in Quito, my wife and I have also taught in China, and had lived in Portland OR, USA, where my first child was born. However, the draw of living in the Andes Mountains were too much, so we returned in January 2014.
It is in Ecuador that I finished my Masters Degree in Education through Drexel University's online masters program in the Fall quarter of 2014. It has and had been a great experience which I feel has completely prepared me for a teaching career.
I currently teach Environmental Systems and Societies at Fundacion Colegio Americano de Quito, which is an international school here in Quito. It has a rich history of serving the community since the 1940s.

I feel that the content of Environmental Systems and Societies is by far the most important content that a high school student can study. I say this because it deals with issues that not only have a visible personal affect, but it has a global affect as well. The students we have now are the future of government, policy making, business, economy and ecological preservation. If they do not see the importance of living sustainably with our environment now, they will not see the importance in the future.
We have so little of our natural areas left, it is up to educators and advocates to make the global population aware that natural areas need to be preserved. That is why I teach Environmental Science.
